Sometimes our living or work spaces need updating, but we don’t always have the time or the budget to do a complete overhaul. Redecorating and home renovations that take months on end require a lot of energy, whether it is time, money, or both! We’ve got some quick time-saving, easy redecorating ideas that will help to revamp your home or office without breaking the bank.
Easy Redecorating Ideas:
1. Repaint Your Walls
Just as the right color can make a room look spectacular, the wrong color walls can really make a room see small, crowded and dim. Your technique can also impact whether your walls work in your favor. Be sure to choose a paint color that is not too dark or harsh. Reds or black for example are typically too dark and bold for a wall color. These colors can be used sparingly, but never as the main color on all four walls. A great technique if you do want to incorporate a bold color is to paint 1 wall out of the 4 in your room a different color than the rest. This accent wall helps to accentuate your space without being too overpowering.
2. Paint Your Furniture
Changing the paint color of your furniture is also a great way to update the personality of your space. Furniture with bold colors brings a playful and vibrant feeling to a room, while black and white combined offer an edgier look. Neutral tones exude a calmer feeling.
3. Hang Artwork on the Walls
Artwork, like colors (or lack thereof) set the personality and tone for the environment you wish to create within your space. Choose pieces that complement your room and if selecting more than one, be sure to opt for artwork that doesn’t clash.
4. Wax Your Floors
There’s something about a clean floor that makes a room seem brand new. If nothing else, sweep, mop and wax your floors. If you’ve got carpeting, give it a good vacuum and your room will immediately seem newer. Easy fix!
5. Use Good Lighting
Lighting is everything, it sets the mood. Dim and more yellow-ish lighting is considered calm and sometimes romantic, while bright lighting and white lights provide a clean and lively aura. Choose lighting that matches the mood you are trying to set. If the bulbs in your office are not bright enough, or too yellow, swap them out for brighter, whiter lights. This will immediately make your space seem less dismal (because no one wants to work in a dreary office).
6. Use Mirrors
Using mirrors to make a space seem larger is the oldest trick in the book. The reflection of the room in the mirror makes the space seem larger and more open. It will also reflect any available light, making the room brighter. If the space you are revamping is small or dark, a mirror is definitely the way to go.
The opposite of mirrors, clutter makes a room appear smaller and more closed off. Open your space up by throwing out (or donating) old junk or anything not being used. You can also move items to another location if it must be kept but really has no purpose in that room. This will immediately give the space more breathing room, making it feel larger and more inviting.
8. Rearrange Your Furniture
For the same reasons you would want to declutter your space, rearranging your furniture not only refreshes your space, giving it a new look with little to no effort, but it also gives you the chance to ensure your furniture is properly spaced out and not packed too close together, which can make a room feel cramped.
9. Add Fresh Flowers or Plants
Fresh flowers and plants instantly bring life to a room whether it be at home, or in the office. They also soften a space that might be too rigid, cold, or industrial. They are easy and have an immediate impact, perfect for your time and money-saving redecorating project!
10. Change-up Your Window Treatments
Switching up your window treatments are a fantastic way to transform your room, allowing you to play with patterns and texture that will accentuate your space and add personality or flair. Choose window treatments that complement your wall color and furniture for a balanced room.
