My name is Alex Easland and I run a blog called ‘Publicly Social,’ P.S. for short, a hub for social media experts, PR pros, “boss babes” and anyone trying to get into the PR/marketing/social field, to help them make a name for themselves. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA.
What inspired you to start your blog?
As I was finishing up my final year as a college student, I realized there was a lot I didn’t know about the “real world.” I was learning things gradually and beginning to put all of the pieces together. As I began to make lists of recommendations I received, things I learned, and notes after many “first days, internships, projects, and small management tasks,” I realized it would have been much easier had I had tips, tricks and advice from someone who had already gone through it. That’s when it dawned on me that I was in the perfect position to begin providing this information to those young professionals who needed a bit of support or advice to get them going. After creating a “journey” throughout P.S., from internship advice, to first day tips, content started to flow about general tips in the field. P.S. is now a place where new professionals and trained experts can go to learn new things, get advice, and create a general sense of a community around those in this digital field.
What does a typical day in your life look like?
I currently work at a PR/Marketing agency, where I assist in the overall strategy of campaigns and marketing messages. In the evenings and on the weekends, I dedicate my time to P.S., writing new content, looking for partnership opportunities, and thinking of creative ways to get my viewers involved. It can be difficult to balance a full time job and be a blogger that is committed to consistency, so it’s very important to organize time and ensure each are getting the attention they deserve.
What do you like best about being a blogger?
There are two important aspects for me, which come with being a blogger: creativity and assistance. As a blogger I am able to creatively display all of my “lessons learned,” in a way that is fun, and unlike a typical portfolio. In addition, it’s so rewarding for me knowing that I am making the journey just a bit easier for others in my field. That in itself, is motivating enough to start a Saturday morning with a fabulous blogging session, and share my message.

How did you hear about Graphique?
I was browsing around for a unique line of stationery and office accessories, and came across Graphique on Instagram and immediately fell in love with their content.
What are your favorite products in the Graphique line?
I love the stationery! I’m a huge sucker for anything that is professional, yet allows personality to shine through. Graphique products, but the stationery specifically, is just that.
What do you think separates Graphique from other stationery and gift lines?
It’s important that products have personality, but can be used in an office setting. That’s just what Graphique is and I think it sets the brand apart from others. I immediately want to be part of the Graphique scene when I see their photos and how their products can be used in real-time, and it’s that sort of feel people want to have before making a purchase.
What is your best organizational tip?
Oh, I have SO many! I would say the best thing to do is ALWAYS plan ahead. Things will always come up that you cannot plan for, making it THAT much more important to be prepared for what you absolutely know is to come. If you know you have an interview in a couple of days, get prepared, do your research in advance, make notes, and be prepared in any other way you can. Things can get hectic sometimes, and this is where planning ahead will be your saving grace.
Words to live by?
Two phrases to live by:
“Make a list!” Whether it’s for work, or for personal reasons, when you have one hundred things running through your mind at all times, and things to keep track of, it’s important to keep lists of things you need to follow up on and handle.
“Always surround yourself with people who make you a better person.” Life is short and there is no time to surround yourself with people who bring you down and don’t encourage your growth. You should always be working to better yourself, both professionally and personally, but in order to do that, you need to have the right people beside you, whether it’s for a mental break, emotional support, a lending hand, or words of wisdom.
