My name is Ashley Clayton. My blog is Never Been So and I’m from Balitmore, MD.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I’m a very creative person, however, my full-time job is about the most opposite you can get from creative. But I needed a paycheck out of college, so here I am. A year ago, I decided I needed an outlet for this creativity. I followed so many bloggers and constantly thought “I want to be like them” or “I love what they post” and finally decided I could start sharing my own posts, connecting with this community, and using my platform to market for brands. I’m a somewhat dramatic person and found my family and friends making fun of me for always using the phrase “never been so” ‘I’ve never been so hungry’ ‘I’ve never been so obsessed with that jacket’ ‘I’ve never been so comfy’ etc. So naturally when I decided to start a blog, this just seemed like the right fit.
What does a typical day in your life look like?
A typical day for me is spent in the office and not so fun (coffee, cubicle, headphones). However, after work and on the weekends is when I most enjoy what I do. On the weekend, I start my day with breakfast/brunch at a local spot (I eat A LOT). I fit in a workout at Pure Barre most likely. Then I go exploring. I search for sales (my passion) and beauty in the city. I seek out brands for my next collaboration. I document my work for the week. I work with my husband to plan our next adventure. I usually end my night with a glass of bubbles or a good red blend.
How do you manage running a blog while working full time?
This is a tough one, but actually comes easy. Because I love blogging, it doesn’t feel like work. So when I get home from work or on the weekends, I grab my tea or my glass of wine and start responding to blog emails, comments, and posting/writing new content. Sleep has definitely taken a back seat lately because I’ll start blogging after dinner and next thing I know it’s midnight! Time flies when you enjoy what you’re doing.
What do you think separates Graphique from other stationery and gift lines?
I’ve loved Graphique for some time now and recently even more because their products are so darn pretty! I want to post every single thing from Graphique because they always draw more users to my feed.
Do you have any advice for others that are looking to start a blog?
Be confident. Reach out to brands. They don’t know you exist if you don’t reach out. Be consistent. I struggle with consistency, but I’m working at it! Engage with other users via digital pods or at events in your own city. Keep your own stats – write down your collaborations, giveaways, follower percentages etc. this makes it much easier when you want to create a media kit for your blog.
Top 3 songs on your playlist right now?
Castle on the Hill – Ed Sheeran
Dog Years – Maggie Rogers
I Know a Place – MUNA
What is your best organizational tip?
WRITE IT DOWN! Keeping a paper to-do list, journal and planner have been life saving for me.
Words to live by?
‘Never Give Up’
It’s such a common phrase, but it has resonated with me more than ever this past year and has really gotten me through a lot of hardships – read my ‘wedding story’ on the blog and you’ll get a sense of why. The prettiest ends have the hardest roads, and they aren’t easy, but they’ll be worth it in the end.
